Fortune in Fantasies

In ancient times the world relied on fantasy. The world revelled in the tales of mermaids and fay and huge monsterous cyclopses. It was indeed a magical world and all believed in the beautiful stories of such beautiful, marvellous creatures. Gods and goddesses loved and lived amongst us, bore our children, fought our wars and ultimately inspired these great stories I am talking about now.

Whatever happened? Where did the magic go? The church, in a feverish attempt to christianise the whole bloody world, told any and all paganfolk that their beliefs are lies, that they are indecent savages and that they, the folk, the people of soil and blood and land, were wrong. Thank God for the Romans, the church said, because the Romans put the weapons where the church's mouth was, attacking, killing, raping, pillaging whatever was left of good people. The world was at war, and the church along with it.

See, because when the church acquired power through the expansion of the Roman Empire and general christianisation of fucking everyone, the church was like a dog who had caught the wheel of a moving car; they simply did not know what to do with it. Some believed it was better used in a certain way and others totally disagreed. These disagreements led to the establishment of hundreds of different churches, all with their own view of the world and of christianity in general, but, ironically, all still with the same flaws as before.

Point is, the Roman Empire fell, christianity along with it and religion gave way to law, insurance and very complicated politics. Now the world is completely upside-fucking-down, idiots like Tyra Banks talk the lives of many miserable fat girls' lives away, America sees itself as the "superpower" of all the nations, despite the fact that they cannot name any other nations apart from their, or where the hell it's located.

The world has been ruled by people who think they know what is best for us, the people of soil and blood and land. They have so for many centuries. They have taken away our folklore, our fairytales, our beauty and substituted it for the 'next best bombshell' out of Hollywood. The magic is still here, despite the politics and the religious facetiousness, it still beats within us. We have just forgotten how to listen.

So, bring the talking monkeys, the slappin' wet mermaid competitions, pink sheep and shining white unicorns. I'll sale my lovely Candyland Lake with a polka dot tea cup, because I believe. Yes, my dreams will take me on a hot air balloon ride to beyond the stars, and I have the best view of them all...

Being Religion's Bitch

My very first (working) blog and I have to be bland enough to write about religion. Fitting however, since, thanks to a dear friend of mine, I had a strange epiphany.

These past few days have once again been marked by end-of-the-world-phobics as, well, the end of the world. They say they can determine the exact date of the apocalypse as the 21st of May 2011. Our world will (again) seize to exist, our children will be doomed and we will (again) be extradited to the eternal damnation of darkness and despair.

It is quite a depressing notion, agreed, but a familiar one at that. The church has always managed to inspire me with awe and instill some sick sense of fear. I was very young when I had sleepless nights about not going to heaven. The church had not only made me a God-fearing child, but a woman who feared my very own human nature. It gave me the "gift" of guilt. And with that fear and guilt, it clasped my loyalty to my religion, as it did so many others' as well.

We all know we should give a tenth of our income to the church. It is written in the Word of God, and so it shall be. But, with the dawn of the New Age, people tend to forget of the church, or they simply choose to follow some other belief, ot they are too lazy to make the effort to go to church, or they simply see the church for what it really is : a festival of hypocrites liars. So, the church grow poorer by the day, with less foreseeable income to come in, and the religion stagnates. So, in true Hollywood style, they dip the world in a state of panic and fear and guilt by advertising the Apocalypse on a specific date and time. The world REPENTS and rush to churches everywhere to pay their tenth for a piece of heaven in the afterlife. McDonalds do it with their BigMacs, so why not the church with the Apocalypse?

After a while, the churches runs empty again, and the process is repeated. So much for the dignity of Christ. This is called the sheep mentality.

So, on the 21st of May 2011 I'll be sitting at home, with a cup of tea, studying for my Criminal Procedure Law exams. I'll watch the end of the world from out my bedroom window. It is a lovely view. :)
